There are many kinds of plastic mold processing methods, let's analyze the knowledge about EDM processing methods. EDM mainly uses the electro-corrosion phenomenon when pulsed spark discharge is generated between the tool and the workpiece (positive and negative electrodes) to remove excess metal to achieve the size, shape and surface quality specified by the technical requirements of the part. .




1. The EDM processing method for plastic molds must meet three major conditions:




① A certain gap must be maintained between the tool electrode and the processed surface of the workpiece, so there must be an automatic feed and adjustment device for the tool electrode in EDM;




② The spark discharge must be an instantaneous pulse discharge, for which EDM must use a pulse power supply;




③Spark discharge must be carried out in a liquid medium with certain insulating properties.




2. Factors affecting the erosion rate of EDM: electrical standards, polarity effects, thermal constants of metal materials, working fluid, and chip removal conditions.




3. Factors affecting the accuracy of EDM machining: various errors of the machine tool itself, tool electrode manufacturing accuracy, positioning and installation errors of the workpiece and electrode, the size and consistency of the discharge gap, the wear of the workpiece electrode and its processing stability.




4. Electrode material requirements for EDM: low loss, stable processing, high productivity, good machining performance, and low price. Commonly used materials: copper, graphite, cast iron, steel, brass, tungsten alloy, silver tungsten alloy. Structure: ①Integral electrode ②Inlaid electrode ③Combined electrode.




5. The method of EDM forming the cavity mold: ①Single electrode translation method ②Multi-electrode replacement method ③Decomposing electrode method.
